Bird years to human years
Bird age is compared with human age by scaling the bird's age against the average lifespan for the selected species.
The proportional relationship is human age equals bird age multiplied by human life expectancy and divided by average bird lifespan.
How long do pet birds live? The average lifespan of pet birds
Small pet birds often have shorter average lifespans than larger parrots, but care quality matters. Species lifespans are estimates and can vary by care, breed, diet, and health. The calculator includes species assumptions for budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds, zebra finches, canaries, African grey parrots, and conures.
Use the custom lifespan option when you have a better estimate for the species, breed, or individual bird you are comparing.
FAQs
The result is a lifespan-scaled comparison, not a veterinary assessment.
Diet, housing, enrichment, genetics, disease history, and regular avian veterinary care can all change how old a bird behaves or how long it may live.
