How to use the grass seed calculator?
Choose the lawn shape, then enter the dimensions for that shape. Rectangles use width and length, circles use radius, ellipses use full lawn length and full lawn width, and triangles use base and height.
Enter the grass seed coverage rate from the seed label. The calculator estimates the area and seed quantity for the selected shape.
Using the grass seed calculator - example
For a rectangular lawn that is 10 m wide and 10 m long, the area is 100 m².
If the seed coverage rate is 2.5 kg per 1000 m², the required seed is 100 x 2.5 / 1000 = 0.25 kg.
What is the coverage rate?
Coverage rate is the amount of seed recommended for a known lawn area. It can differ for new lawns, overseeding, grass variety, climate, and soil conditions.
Use the rate printed on the seed package when available, and consider buying a small buffer for uneven spreading or irregular lawn edges.
