What is the IV flow rate?
IV flow rate is the infusion volume delivered per unit of time, commonly displayed as mL/hr.
Use the result as a reference only. Always verify IV rates with clinical protocol or a qualified healthcare professional.
IV flow rate formula
The pump-rate formula is IV flow rate = IV volume / infusion time in hours.
When time is entered in minutes, the calculator converts minutes to hours before calculating the mL/hr result.
How to calculate the IV flow rate
Enter the IV volume, then choose whether the infusion time is in hours, minutes, or hours plus minutes.
The calculator shows a dash until enough valid information is available. Zero volume, zero time, and division by zero are rejected instead of producing a misleading result.
IV drip rate calculations
Drip-rate mode estimates drops per minute from the IV volume, infusion time, and drop factor.
The drip-rate formula is drops/min = volume x drop factor / infusion time in minutes. Enter the drop factor in drops per mL when using this mode.
